Ryde Secondary College is a comprehensive, co-educational, partially selective high school that caters for the needs of mainstream and selective students and students with special needs.
Our current enrolment is 1089 students. Ryde Secondary College enjoys an attractive, quiet, green, neighbourhood setting.
Our excellent facilities and physical layout foster collaborative learning and productive relationships between students.
Our school community strives to create a dynamic and collaborative learning environment in which every child is valued.
Our teachers value professional learning and are committed to ongoing improvement and innovative teaching practices. A broad range of subjects is offered at all levels to foster a wide range of talents and interests and to ensure positive learning outcomes are achieved.
An extensive range of extra - curricular activities provides opportunities for all students to participate in school life and to develop leadership skills. Many, including our High Resolves and Duke of Edinburgh programs, incorporate a focus on social justice and citizenship, and reinforce our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation and Leadership.
At Ryde Secondary College, we believe that our focus on quality teaching, student participation in our extra curricular activities, our supportive wellbeing program, and our focus on positive relationships and community partnerships, contribute to the development of young citizens with the skills needed today and in the future.
Our College regularly offers competitive sport programs and regularly wins first and second placings in zone sporting competitions and carnivals.
Our Music Program, which incorporates a College band and orchestra, regularly support icon events including our Annual Fashion Show, Drama Evening and the talent quest, Ryde Idol. Our caring and experienced staff fosters a friendly and respectful environment in which each individual is encouraged to achieve their personal best now and into the future.
Our student leadership and merit award programs support this policy by rewarding our students for effort, achievement and participation.
An academically selected cohort of 60 students is included in each of Years 7 to 12.
There is also a gifted and talented mainstream class in each of the junior years. Outstanding results have been achieved by our students in both selective and non-selective groups.
Ryde Secondary College also boasts a Special Education Support Unit, which enriches the culture of the College. Disability access is provided to all specialist areas and most of the classrooms.
Parent and community support for Ryde Secondary College is highly valued. Our parents are encouraged to participate in the P & C and other school activities and to work in partnership with the college to foster the academic and social development of our students.
We also work in partnership with a group of secondary schools and local primary schools, Ryde Council, and local service, education and business organisations, to provide our students with broader opportunities to learn, and participate in our community.
