Riverside Girls High is a comprehensive public high school for girls with a diverse population of 930 students.
Over forty nationalities are represented at the school with about 50 percent of the students having a language background other than English. It is ten kilometres from the centre of the city and accessible by bus and ferry. With its central location on a major arterial road, Riverside draws students from over 23 primary schools. Since 1934, when established, the school's motto has been FACTA NON VERBA (deeds not words).
The graduates of Riverside, known as Riversidians, are confident, independent and creative young women. There is a whole school focus on growth, developing personal strengths, improvement and of developing future focused skills including creative and critical thinking, collaboration, design thinking and the extensive use of technology.
The school consistently achieves excellent academic results. The 2017 highest ATAR was 99.65 and 85 percent students accepted places into universities or TAFE.
Three students achieved places in the top results for their subjects: biology, hospitality and society and culture. In 2015, similar top results were achieved in extension English, and earth and environmental science. One 2017 student has had her artwork selected for ArtExpress.
Current professional learning areas include student agency, using reflection to improve extended writing and formative assessment. The school is one of seven DET STEM Action Schools and a partner of the University of Sydney's STEM Enrichment Academy.
Teachers travel the state providing their peers with professional learning in inquiry based learning projects that challenge students' thinking and foster collaboration. Student wellbeing programs are underpinned with positive psychology principles, including a no blame approach to sorting any issues through conversation.
The development of resilience is valued and promoted.The AB project is where "B" stands for promoting a culture of belonging, of high expectations to commit to learning and of resilience.
Riverside is a school of outstanding opportunity - the musical and performance program includes orchestra, dance and a biannual school musical.
Students enjoy a wide range of sports including participation in major competitions for volleyball, water polo, aerobics and gymnastics. Students are articulate and passionate about having a voice and making things happen.
Service learning and building relationships with rural communities are important. Opportunities also include Mock Trial, Model United Nations and membership of a committed Amnesty group.
The school enables young people to become creators who will positively shape their world.
