Model Farms High School is a comprehensive high school with enrolment of over 1100 students.

The school plan is grounded on the belief that in order to ensure effective learning then the focus must be on the development of the whole child. We believe there is a strong relationship between the academic physical, mental and socio-cultural needs of students, and that they are of equal importance and crucial to ensuring successful educational outcomes.

All children are valued and their individual differences respected. By setting high expectations of effort, behaviour and uniform we seek to enable all children to achieve their academic potential and to develop into responsible and caring citizens.

The school recognises the need to reward students for their efforts. The school has a broad curriculum in both the junior and senior years.

The Quality Teaching Framework binds learning across the school and ensures that we are comprehensive in our ability to meet the needs of all students. A consistent approach is taken across all faculties in literacy and numeracy.

Data is used extensively to identify areas of strength and those that require additional emphasis. Whenever possible, additional resources are allocated to help all students meet benchmarks.

The personalised learning, including the setting of targets, is supported by constant feedback, assessment for learning, reporting to parents through student reports, bulletins and the Annual School Report. The school has strong links with its partner primary schools and undertakes a number of valuable middle schooling projects.

Among a range of initiatives are gifted and talented programs in Mathematics, Visual Arts and public speaking.  A shared understanding of how mathematics is taught in the different settings, and a more seamless transition to high school for primary students, are among the positive outcomes of this valuable program.

In 2010 the Model Farms High Primary Links program resulted in the school receiving a Director-General's Award. Another feature of the school is the opportunity provided to all students to involve themselves in leadership opportunities.

In addition to the Junior and Senior Representative Councils, peer support and prefects, students from Year 7 onwards are able to be part of the Junior Leadership Development Program, students from Year 9 onwards can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh, and a majority of seniors undertake mentor training. Students are also encouraged to involve themselves in both the performing and creative arts and public speaking.

The annual Fame at the Farms variety showcases the considerable talent within the school, and each year students have success in both debating and public speaking competitions.
